PTSD - Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
PTSD, post–traumatic stress disorder, is a mental illness that develops as a result of severe physical, emotional, or psychological trauma. PTSD is commonly associated with veterans’ trauma that occurs as a result of the effects of war. It can also be the result of other types of trauma such as childhood trauma, as in my case. I still feel the acts of sexual assault, spousal abuse, and home invasion and burglary, causing negative parallel effects of feeling threatened by and detached from people. Some symptoms of this mental illness can interrelate with other mental illnesses. In the case of detachment from people, this is part of being antisocial—a symptom of another mental illness I fight daily: Cluster B Personality Disorder. PTSD can bring about feelings of anger, betrayal, low self-esteem and self-worth, deep-seated rage, and paranoia. It
can also cause hallucinations and delusions. I have dealt with each of these things. There are things that trigger an episode, and solutions that challenge and fight the negative effects that accompany PTSD.
